Pulmonology Care
Medical Center Enterprise provides a wide variety of diagnostic, preventive and treatment services for diseases that affect breathing and lung function. Pulmonary doctors (pulmonologists) work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group of specialists, including cardiologists, interventional radiologists, surgeons and other health care professionals to provide care for conditions.
Respiratory therapists help manage the patients with respiratory problems and also provide diagnostics for cardiac and neurological patients. Specialists provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient breathing treatment services, including:
- Electrocardiogram (EKG) - A test that records the electrical impulses traveling through the heart to evaluate the heart's function, to determine the presence of abnormal electrical impulses and to detect heart damage.
- Pulmonary function test - A series of tests that measure lung function and provide information about the amount of air a person's lungs can hold and how effectively the lungs work. This test can be used to diagnose respiratory conditions including asthma.
-
Cardiac stress test - A noninvasive procedure performed on a treadmill to help diagnose heart disease. More extensive studies are combined with radioisotopes.
-
Electroencephalogram (EEG) - A test used to detect abnormalities in the brain waves or electrical activity of the brain.
-
Arterial blood gas (ABG) - A blood test used to evaluate the lungs' ability to provide blood with oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. Also used to measure the pH (acidity) of the blood.
