Additional Information
Bringing a child into the world is a wonderful personal experience. At Medical Center Enterprise, we believe you should have choices in how to deliver and care for your baby. Choices that help make sure your birthing experience is everything you want it to be.
Preparing for the Happy Event
Expectant parents can learn all about the "big day" (and the nine months before) at childbirth classes offered year round at Medical Center Enterprise. You'll learn about changes in the expectant mother's body, how the baby grows and what happens when your baby decides to make his or her debut. There are even classes for breastfeeding, newborn care and other important topics. We believe it's our job to help get you ready for this happy event and we'll do what we can to make it an experience to treasure for a lifetime. For more information, please download our flyer.
What Do We Do Now?
During the hospital stay, our nurses teach new moms the basics of infant care, from how to feed and diaper their newborn to when to call the doctor. To ensure a healthy start, nurse educators are available to assist mothers and babies with breastfeeding. We make it our job to make you feel comfortable caring for your newborn and yourself. We take time to answer all of your questions and we have years of experience to help put you at ease. For information, call (334) 393-8733.
After Baby Arrives
At the Medical Center Enterprise Women’s Center, caring for you continues after your baby is born. After the months of planning and preparation are over, you both deserve some rest.
Your baby will be bathed sometime after eight hours of being born. Your baby is born with a natural moisturizer. Vernix is a whitish, waxy substance on the skin and has many protective benefits. At birth we will dry your baby, but will leave the vernix on. It is better for the baby. Vernix is a natural moisturizer. It will be absorbed naturally over time. It maintains water balance in the skin and keeps your baby’s skin soft and supple. A skin shield is an extra layer of protection while your baby’s immune system is getting stronger.
This helps your baby:
- Have more bonding time during the important first hours
- Keep warm
- Keep blood sugar stable
- State breastfeeding easily
- Prevent infections and form immunity
- Bond with mother
Please ask your nurse if you have any questions or concerns.
We encourage ‘skin to skin’ for Mommy and Baby following birth. At Medical Center Enterprise, we encourage mom and baby to room together. We offer you and your new family quiet time immediately following delivery so you can bond, nurse and celebrate with your little bundle of joy.
Visitors are welcome, but when a mom wants and needs rest, a team member will kindly explain that she’s requested some time alone. Check here for 'Mommy Quiet Time.'
