Deborah Gibson, LPN, Named Medical Center Enterprise’s Patient Choice Award Winner
6/28/2013
Enterprise, AL – When Medical Center Enterprise asked former patients to nominate exceptional
nurses who exceeded expectations, the community responded with an incredible number of
nominations.
The Patient Choice Award recognizes the quality care, comfort and compassion offered by the
nurses at Medical Center Enterprise, and honors one nurse in particular. As part of National
Nurse’s Week, May 6-12, Deborah Gibson, LPN was presented with the award.
Medical Center Enterprise asks former patients to spotlight an exceptional nurse because patients
are the ones directly impacted by outstanding care.
“Sometimes it’s just too hard to spot one nurse when there are so many nurses in our hospital
doing such an incredible job caring for our patients,” says Brandi Speigner, Chief Nursing
Officer for Medical Center Enterprise. “That’s why we asked patients to help us make the choice.
They see the little things that matter so much on a very personal level.”
Deborah was nominated by Beverly Trickler, from Samson, was admitted to the 4th
Floor from the Emergency Room, and experienced kind and special care. Ms. Trickler is currently bravely
battling cancer, and at the time was in a great deal of discomfort and pain upon arrival to her
inpatient room. The Ms. Trickler explained that Deborah “Made sure I was confortable and all
my needs were met. She took time to answer all the questions that my family and I had. When it
was time to be transferred to a hospital in Birmingham for specialized care with my oncologist
she was very kind and gentle and made me feel at ease during the process.”
Deborah has been an employee of Medical Center Enterprise since September 1988, working in
many different departments and has gained a very comprehensive range of experience in her
service at MCE. Deborah started her nursing career on the Medical/Surgical unit on 2nd
floor,
worked in the Women’s Wing in the post-partum area, the Emergency Room, and is currently
working on the 4th
floor on the Surgical Unit.
Deborah decided to become a nurse, and followed in her older cousin Jackie’s footsteps, and was
also inspired by her mentor; her mother. “She was very caring and had a nurturing spirit,
something I remember when taking care of patients. I try to treat every patient following the
example she taught me- caring for them like they are my own family” said Deborah about her
mother. Family is very important to Deborah, and in her free time she loves to spoil and spend
time with her two grandsons Jaice, who is 5 years old, and Jasai, who is 3 years old. “I believe
that nursing is my god given talent, and I also believe that laughter is the better part of medicine”
said Deborah. Deborah was honored at a reception at the Rawls on June 28.
